    Dead door opener

Post  Garlic on Sun Jul 13, 2014 6:14 am

Opener not working. Lights do not come on either. Learning button flashes. I replaced circuit board but it only makes a click sound as it did before replacement. Its a new opener that worked great. Lightning struck in the area and it hasn't worked since. Any ideas?

Lightning surges/strikes can do a lot of damage to garage door operators. Not only is the logic board susceptible to lightning but you also have to consider the RPM sensor, capacitor, safety sensors and all of the electrical wiring. My guess is that one or more of the wiring harnesses may have been fried. It's really hard to tell without taking off the cover of the opener and replacing parts. It's a process of elimination. Unfortunately you may have more time & money invested than it's worth.

For anyone else reading this response I recommend that you put a surge protector on the end of the power cord of the operator. It will save you a lot of money & headaches if lightning ever strikes. Surge Protector
