Wooden Swing-Up Door Looses Side Gap Empty Wooden Swing-Up Door Looses Side Gap

    Post  graybeard47 Wed Sep 03, 2014 7:17 pm

I have a 2 car wooden garage door using the Holmes E900 swing-up hardware ( jamb type). In essence as the door is about 7" from being fully opened, the left side looses all of its side gap and it appears on the right side. Facing the door(closed) from the outside, here are the measurements:
    Left bottom corner: 3/8" gap
    Left Top corner;       3/8"+ gap
    Right bottom corner: 3/16" gap
    Right top corner:        3/16" gap
When door is fully opened: Left top corner: no gap between the door jam and the garage door.
Right top corner: 3/8" gap between the door jam and the garage door.

The garage door is level and is square within a 1/4" corner to corner, diagonally. The door jams are plumb.

So, what can be adjusted not to have the fully opened door loose all of its left top gap?

    Thank you

Wooden Swing-Up Door Looses Side Gap Empty Solution Determined But Better To Leave As Is

    Post  graybeard47 Sun Sep 07, 2014 12:19 am

As I knew that those that read the post, very few would know the working of the hardware and if did, would direct me to the manufacturer's page. This is exactly what happened on another forum that this was posted but I pointed out why their instructions would create just another problem.

It can't be fixed as is; the door jams were not placed on the same plane, thus affecting the "Z" plane: as the door opens, it twists. To fix it, the correct plane would have to be determined ,one or both jams ripped out and re-installed. Sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone as the jams ,here are on a stone face wall: old construction.
