Seal your garage door Empty Seal your garage door

I am now heating my garage and was thinking about buying Green Hinges (Green Hinge of America) to keep the garage door tight against the garage frame. Anyone else using this product?
I found a discount code for 5% off (5online). Any info would be helpful.

    Thank you,

    Hi Lucas,

I've seen the hinges but our garage door company has never used them. Personally I don't think it would be worth it to use the hinges. I think that you would be better off installing good vinyl jamb & header seals around the perimeter of the opening. It would also be a good idea to put a vinyl or rubber seal on the bottom of the door. Those are the areas where you'll see the most air infiltration. That's just my 2 cents.

If you do happen to use the new hinges please feel free to post your results back here...I would be curious how it worked out for you and I'm sure there are other people that would also be interested.

Seal your garage door Empty Let us know

Post  TKODoors Tue Apr 23, 2013 7:59 pm

I have been a door technician for over a decade and I've never heard of these before. I'm curious to know if something like this actually works.

It makes me a little nervous that the door would be more likely to drag on the jamb causing unwanted noise and damage to the door or jamb.

I am a Canadian door tech and steel vinyl weatherstrip is all that exists here. If installed properly it has no problem keeping the warm in and the cold out even on the coldest Canadian winter days.

    Keep us posted!

Seal your garage door Empty Wish I had these years ago

I put the Green Hinges on my door before winter and have to say I'm really happy I did. I'm in Wisconsin and this last cold spell has really shown the difference in my garage temp. Now that the door is tight, I think I'm going to insulate my garage door. Very Happy

I have to admit I was a little skeptical about the Green Hinges. I'm glad to hear that it seems to have helped in sealing up your garage door. You couldn't have picked a better winter to do it.

    Thanks for the update!  Smile

Saw a post about these green hinges and bought them. If you heat your garage, you need these hinges to keep those doors tight against the seals. As I was installing them I could see how the light from around the seals disappeared as I installed each one. What a simple install for what I can see as real savings in my heating of my garage

Seal your garage door Empty How is this working out?

This is a great idea but I'm wondering if you've seen any extra wear on your weatherstripping. Can anyone weigh in before I go down this path. Thanks.
