If you've got an older garage door opener there isn't really a way to do that without buying extra parts and from what i've seen the parts you need can run up to 100$ easily. The alternative would be to buy a new garage door opener. Looking online i've found this review of a chamberlain belt drive with wifi. You can buy and install yourself or have someone install it for you. With the wifi feature you won't need any additional parts which is great. Its the unit i'd recommend anyhow as the chamberlains seem to be the best garage door openers out there.
