    I have a 2 car / single door that won't go up.  I'm assuming it is the springs that's not allowing it to lift up.  The garage was built in 1960, but I have no idea what all has been done since then.  It has extension springs on either side of the door, but they are parallel with the door meaning that they are within reach of a child (relaxed when the door is open and tight when the door is closed).  From everything that I've seen extension springs are suppose to be mounted perpendicular to the door when it is closed so that they are overhead.  The thing that's getting my goat is the upper pulley won't pivot enough to mount the springs overhead so it seems like the intention was for the extension springs to be mounted near the ground.  

    I have attached pictures.  

    The first picture is the pulley at the top.  The pulley isn't capable of pivoting 360 degrees to support the spring from overhead.

    The second picture is the mounting point of the spring near the ground.  

    The third picture is the spring relaxed (should be extended at this point since the door is closed) but has a pulley at the top.  There is a cable that runs through the pulleys.  One end of the cable was/is tied off near the upper pulley (that doesn't pivot too much) through the three small holes.  The end of the cable is looped around the bottom of the door at the stud?

    Any help in getting this door up is greatly appreciated!!
