Solution to alert driver garage is still in motion

All,

Is there any device or mechanism that is available to alert the driver if the garage door is still in motion. I had an incident where driver backed up from the garage thinking garage is fully open in fact garage was only half way open. I am trying to come up with a visual or audible solution like an alarm that will buzz if garage is not completely open. This way driver can stop the vehicle to avoid damage to garage door or the car.

Appreciate if you have any ideas or inputs.
