My sprocket sheared off and the chain went flying. I was able to remove the three screws that hold the main gear assembly and took the retaining clip off the bottom gear with no problem. I've ordered a new kit from Sears Parts Direct and am waiting for it to arrive. Reassembly seems straight forward but just a couple of questions for the Pros...

1.) The screws were originally installed from the bottom. I suppose there is a good reason for that but when reinstalling can they be screwed in from the top???

2.) A worm gear comes with the replacement kit. My existing gear is in good shape. I may just go ahead and replace it though to keeps the gears the same age. My question is what is the easiest way to get the worm gear out. I see there is a black cap that can be removed but am unsure from there.

    Thanks.
