Ok... When it started ...got a call from relative stating several days ago they had a power outage. Went to use garage door discovered spring was broken.. disengaged trolley. They ran the trolley back using opener. It did not stop even when tripping the micro switch on rail. Motor then sparked, also seen something running from the motor... I know details are odd, but this is what I have. Neutral

Sounds like the opener may have had a power surge (possibly from a lightning strike) and damaged the opener. The limit switch may have gotten fried along with damage to the logic board...you'll have to physically look at the board...if you see burn marks - it's fried.

The stuff you see running out of the opener is most likely from the capacitor and will need replaced. Depending on how old the opener is it may be better to replace the whole opener instead of trying to replace all the damaged parts.

    Hope this helps.
