Craftsman 1/2 HP stops intermittently when opening

Door is closed and I press the button (remote or wall piece irrelevant). It opens and sometimes stops at about 1 foot or 3 feet up. At the exact moment travel stops the light blinks off then back on. I wait a couple seconds and press it again for it to close then try again. Sometimes during this process it just won't respond to any button press until I wait for a couple seconds.

Note: It's been working fine for a few years, so it's not the travel distance settings. I checked the door for possible difficult opening points in case it was tripping the "too much force" sensor. There doesn't seem to be any catches that I can feel. I tried cranking up the force to max and it'll force its way through my trying to hold it shut. I also tried cleaning off my laser sensors just in case, but the light doesn't blink the way it does when that trips. It's almost like it lost power for a split second.

Take the cover off and look inside. You may find that the white nylon drive gear is worn down or broke.
