Overhead Door - Armor-tite system Empty Overhead Door - Armor-tite system

Post  MaineGarage Mon Jan 08, 2024 8:13 pm

    Hello,

Thought I would my question here and hope someone could help me.

I have an 8ft Overhead door system that was installed around 2003.  It has an obsolete Armor-tite counterbalance system, but with only one spring (not the dual spring system) which sits in that barrel-like housing.

I had a cable break due to corrosion and want to replace both cables.  I have the correct cables and a Overhead door installation instruction booklet but have a difficult time understanding how to install and tighten the drums and cable and not confusing with how to wind the torsion spring.  The other cable is attach so the spring is still under tension.

I can't find any youtube videos or better instructions for a layman.  Does anyone have any info that would help.

    Thanks,
    Stew

Replacing cables on your single-spring Armor-tite system requires caution. While YouTube videos might be scarce, manufacturer manuals, technical support, and general torsion spring replacement guides can offer insights. Remember, safety is key. If unsure, contact a professional. Mark existing cable positions, use correct cables, follow tension guidelines, and test carefully. Good luck!
