Door has power but will not open or close

My garage door has power but will not open or close. There are two red lights illuminated, numbers 2 and 8. Does anyone know how to fix this. My wife says we had a bad lightning storm today and she thinks this may have caused the trouble.

You don't mention what make of opener you have but I'm going to assume that it's a Marantec opener since you mention having 8 lights on the control panel. If #2 is lit...that indicates that the door is open. If #8 is lit...that indicates that there is power to the opener.

Is the opener not working from the wall station as well as the remotes?

You may want to try unplugging the unit, wait about 30 seconds, then plug it back in & try the opener. This will reset the opener & sometimes works.

Lightning storms can damage the logic board inside the opener. You'll have to take the cover off the opener & check the logic board. If it has been damaged you'll most likely notice burn marks on the board.

It works from the wall station and closes. I now have a #6 flashing so I downloaded a copy of the product literature. The pamphlet said to adjust the sensors so I tried that. The green lights up but my problem is I can't get the red sensor to light up. I am either not lined up or I have a bad sensor. Do you inow how to test the sensor?

The only way to really test them is to remove them from the brackets and put the sensors face to face. If the red light on the Receiver Sensor isn't on then most likely the sensor is bad.

Most of the time, if you're facing problems opening or closing your garage door though it has power, chances are the fault lies with the sensors. Also, try unplugging the garage door opener and re-plugging the unit back into the outlet.
