Mastercraft 3/4 doesn't work

My garage door opener doesn't work anymore, my husband has trying to fix it.

Open and close the door repeatedly, smell burn and then nothing. The motor wouldn't start.

Waited few minute and nothing, waited until the next day, still nothing. I removed the motor and sent it to a shop. The motor is working fine.

Any suggestions on what could be the problem? The unit is 3 years old.

It sounds like the capacitor is shot.

How do I fixed it??? By replacing the capacitor???

Yes, you'll need to replace the capacitor. You'll know if it's bad (usually) because it will have a burnt odor to it or may have some liquid oozing out of it.

The easiest and best fix would be to just replace the opener.

Once one problem comes up with an opener other problems aren't usually that far behind.

The average life span of an opener is 15 - 20 years. If your opener is in that window or close it might be time for an upgrade!
