    Garage Door Repair Tip

Post  doortodoor on Mon Apr 25, 2011 3:52 am

Carefully examine the tracks and brackets holding them to the walls.
    • Look for dents or flat spots, and when you find them, flatten them with a hammer or a scrap of wood. Badly damaged tracks have to be replaced.
    • Check whether the tracks are properly aligned. If the alignment is faulty, you should tighten the screws without removing them completely.
    • Use a concentrated household cleaning liquid to clean these tracks so as to remove grease or any hardened dirt. Rollers must be carefully cleaned too and wiped dry.
    • Next, you will need to lubricate both the rollers and tracks with powdered graphite and lubricant spray, respectively.
    • Examine and then tighten loose hardware, and if you have swing-up garage doors, check to see if the screws on the plates where they are mounted are secure. Check the hinges on roll-up garage doors, and tighten any loose screws, or replace any damaged hinges as needed.
    • On swing-up and roll-up doors, check the springs attached to holes and spring cables fixed to pulleys.

Garage Door Repairs & Preventitive Maintnence

Post  rgaffney on Wed Dec 14, 2011 3:12 pm

Very good tips. I always tell my customers, there are quite of few things, that they as homeowners can do, to limit the amount of visits for garage door service companies.
1)Check to see that all nuts and bolts are nice and tight.
2)Make sure that the rollers, springs and hinges get lubed at least twice a year. I recommend silicone on the rollers and hinges, white lithium on the springs.
3)Make sure the opener chain is tight
4)Check to see that nothing is in the path of the eye-beams. Always check this before calling a garage door company, if your opener isn't working properly. These are just a couple of pointers I give all my clients.

    Garage Door Repair Tips:

1.Check the metal tracks inside the garage. Look at the mounting brackets that hold the tracks to the walls. If they're loose, tighten the bolts or screws at the brackets.

    2. Check the tracks with a level to make sure they're properly aligned. Horizontal tracks should slant slightly down toward the back of the garage; with roll-up doors, the vertical sections of track should be exactly plumb. Both tracks must be at the same height on the garage walls. If the tracks are not properly aligned, loosen but do not remove the screws or bolts that hold the mounting brackets, and tap the tracks carefully into position.

    3. Clean the tracks with concentrated household cleaner to remove dirt and hardened grease. Clean the rollers thoroughly, and wipe both tracks and rollers dry.

    4. Check for loose hardware, and tighten as needed. On swing-up doors, check the plates where the spring is mounted to be sure the screws are tight, and tighten any loose screws. On roll-up doors, check the hinges that hold the sections of the door together; tighten any loose screws, and replace any damaged hinges. Sagging at one side of the door can often be corrected by servicing the hinges.

Hope I helped even by little. Very Happy

You will need to become familiar with garage door repair to keep your door functioning properly. There are two main components to a garage door: the door itself and the opener. When the door open half and stops then usually the door may have a broken spring.

If you have a torsion spring door, the springs will also have to be lubricated. If you have an extension spring door make sure that you lube all of the pulleys.
