I just bought a house.  The garage door was an issue at the inspection.  But i thought it would be a quick fix.

The safety sensor is just the opposite of what it should do.  When the beam is broken the door actually closes and the automatic reverse from the door hitting something is not working.

    Any ideas on a fix?

Just to add, the motor is turned 90degrees from the trolley due to a steel beam running across the garage.  There is a plate with a cog connecting the chain drive.

    Thanks in advance

Whoever installed it, installed the chain and carriage backward. when looking towards the garage door from the inside of the garage while the door is closed the turnbuckle at the end of the chain should be on the left-hand side. I'm guessing yours will be on the opposite side. You'll need to disassemble the chain and rotate it and the carriage.

If the safety sensors of your LiftMaster 3255 garage door opener are installed backward, you will need to reverse their positions to ensure proper functionality. Here's how you can do it:
    1. Disconnect the power: Before working on any electrical components, unplug the power cord of your garage door opener or turn off the power supply from the circuit breaker.
    2. Identify the safety sensors: Locate the safety sensors near the bottom of the garage door tracks. They are usually mounted about 6 inches above the ground on each side of the door.
    3. Remove the sensors: Carefully remove both sensors from their mounting brackets. They are typically held in place with a bracket and a couple of screws.
    4. Swap the sensors: Once you have removed the sensors, switch their positions. The sensor with the receiving eye (usually the one with a green LED light) should be installed on the opposite side, and the sensor with the transmitting eye (usually the one with an amber LED light) should be installed on the original side.
    5. Reinstall the sensors: Place the sensors back into their mounting brackets and secure them with the screws. Ensure that they are aligned properly and facing each other, with the beams of the sensors uninterrupted.
    6. Test the operation: After reinstalling the sensors, restore power to your garage door opener. Test the door by opening and closing it to verify that the sensors are working correctly. The door should operate smoothly without any obstructions or safety concerns.

It's important to note that the positioning of the sensors is crucial for the safety features of your garage door opener to work effectively. The sensors create an invisible beam of light, and if this beam is interrupted by an object or obstruction, the door will stop or reverse its movement to prevent accidents or property damage.
If you encounter any issues or difficulties during the process, it's recommended to consult the user manual for your specific model of LiftMaster garage door opener or contact LiftMaster customer support for further assistance.

Ensure that the safety sensor units, typically located near the bottom of the vertical tracks on both sides of the garage door, are properly aligned. Make sure they are facing each other and that the infrared beam is not obstructed. Clean any dirt or debris that may be blocking the sensors.Examine the wiring connections between the sensors and the garage door opener motor. Look for any loose or damaged wires that may be affecting the sensor's operation. Ensure the connections are secure and properly connected.

It sounds like the safety sensor for your garage door is not functioning correctly, and this is a crucial issue that needs prompt attention to ensure the safety office movers los angeles of your property and those using the garage door. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem:

If this beam is interrupted, the door should not close. Make sure the sensors are facing each other and that there are no obstructions blocking the path of the beam.
