Hi! I have 20 year old redwood garage doors from Ideal (2 - 9'x8' and 1 - 16'x8') and am doing some repairs (seals, rollers, hinges, etc). A couple of them have slight rot on the bottom panel (raised panel sections; 5 per door), as well as a bow of about 1" max (particularly the 16'). Aside from removing each section and 'convincing' them to go square again (including pre-stressing reinstalled reinforcement bars, which the 16' door has on each of its 5 sections), can I flip the door? I am aware that the panels have a step/tongue on the top of them which is higher @ the rear where they come in contact with the section above when closed, but I'm figuring as long as I get the geometry of the hinges correct, the fact that the reverse would be true if the door is flipped is trivial - unless I'm missing something (hence asking here).
The two benefits of flipping the sections and reinstalling (top would become the bottom section, and so on), are:
1. Top section is in great shape; bottom section would now be on top and under the least amount of stress;
2. The door sag would now be reversed.
Is that logical?
Has anyone ever done this?
Thanks,
Mike (Sub)
