Since the inception of the UL325 Safety Standard in the early 1990's and the requirement of all garage door operator manufacturers to have safety devices (such as the safety beams, photo-eyes, etc.) this has been one of the biggest problems with electric operators.
If one of the sensors happens to fail, get knocked out of alignment or a dirty lens (or even the sun shining on them can "blind" the sensor)the opener will refuse to close the door. There could be other reasons for the opener not closing the door but this is usually the problem.
Please read our blog post My Garage Door Wont Close - Helpwhere we go into more details on troubleshooting. If the suggestions don't solve the problem then feel free to post a new question here.
