Motor busted ? Empty Motor busted ?

Post  mitchathome Sat Jul 04, 2020 3:04 pm

Garage door not opening, when I try using manual open as soon as the motor starts taking the full weight of the door something seems to slip and the door falls down. It seems to me like a gear or something like that is slipping inside the motor, is this possible ?

Take a picture of the motor. Sounds like your motor has a slipping clutch. Look for a big 3/4” nut on your motor with a cotter pin going through the shaft to hold that nut on. Take the cotter pin out, tighten that nut up a few turns, out the cotter pin back on & try it out. You are simply tightening the clutch, if you have one.
