new transmitter won't open door

I have a MacDelux 2005 garage door opener. Lost a transmitter and purchased a Marantec 315MHz external receiver kit. Hooked it up following directions supplied with the correct wires in terminals 3 & 4. Pressed programming button & LED flashed. Pressed transmitter button & LED flashed as long as transmitter button was depressed. When I released button the light went out. It never burned continuously for 4 sec. Also tried following coding instructions in Mac Lift owner's manual. In both instances when I pressed transmitter button, I heard a click in the power plug radio control, the LED blinked continuously & the door didn't budge. I can still operate the door from the wall transmitter. Any idea what I'm doing wrong.

"Pressed programming button & LED flashed"...I'm assuming you pressed & released the oval program button on the Plug-in Receiver & the yellow program button was flashing......if that's what you did then the next step is to press & HOLD the remote button until the program button light goes out (don't release remote button until light on receiver goes out).

"In both instances when I pressed transmitter button, I heard a click in the power plug radio control"....if you press the remote button & the Plug-in Receiver makes a clicking noise then the remote is programmed to the radio receiver. If that's the case then the problem will be in the wiring. Either the two wires aren't pushed far enough into #3 & #4 terminal on the opener or they aren't inserted far enough into the Plug-in Receiver to make contact....check over the connections on both ends.
