You don't mention what make of opener you have but I'm going to assume that it's a Marantec opener since you mention having 8 lights on the control panel. If #2 is lit...that indicates that the door is open. If #8 is lit...that indicates that there is power to the opener.
Is the opener not working from the wall station as well as the remotes?
You may want to try unplugging the unit, wait about 30 seconds, then plug it back in & try the opener. This will reset the opener & sometimes works.
Lightning storms can damage the logic board inside the opener. You'll have to take the cover off the opener & check the logic board. If it has been damaged you'll most likely notice burn marks on the board.
