Garage door security sensor issue Empty Garage door security sensor issue

    Post  rolle4 Thu Jun 20, 2024 6:19 pm

Problem with garage door sensors when closing.  In the afternoons with the sun beating down on the garage door, I have to hold and press the wall control (a few times) in order for the door to close.  It appears the sun is affecting the sensor beams.  Mornings/evenings no issue closing the garage.  Any ideas/help appreciated.

Sunbeams can mess with sensor signals. Try adjusting the receiver sensor (green LED) slightly higher or lower to block direct sunlight. Genie offers sensor sun shields for this purpose. As a temporary solution, use a small piece of cardboard to shade the sensor during the afternoons.
If adjustments don't work, consider swapping sensor positions (which might require wiring changes) or relocating them entirely out of sunlight. If these fail, consult a garage door professional.

    Hello,

I understand that you're experiencing issues with your garage door sensors when closing during sunny afternoons. It seems that the sun is interfering with the sensor beams, requiring you to hold and press the wall control multiple times for the door to close. Here are some ideas and suggestions that may help:

Clean the sensors: Ensure that the surface of the garage door sensors is clean and free from any dust, dirt, or debris. Sunlight can cause reflections or interference, so maintaining clean and transparent sensors is crucial.
Adjust the sensor position: Check if the sensors are properly aligned and unobstructed. Make sure they are facing each other without any objects blocking the path. Blockage or incorrect alignment can prevent the sensors from functioning correctly.
Use sunshades or shields: Consider installing sunshades or shields above the sensors. These can help block direct sunlight from reaching the sensors, reducing interference.
Upgrade to enhanced sensors: If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you may want to consider upgrading to newer and more advanced sensors. Some sensors are designed to have better resistance to interference, allowing them to work more reliably even in strong sunlight.
Please note that these are general suggestions, and the specific solution may vary depending on your garage door setup. If the problem persists, it would be best to consult a professional garage door technician who can examine the situation and provide tailored assistance.
