Remote will not open door Empty Remote will not open door

    Post  KeithK_from_NJ Tue Aug 07, 2018 8:37 pm

I've had a Craftsmen 1/2 hp opener for decades, model #139.53500. Works fine from the hard wired switch but the remote does not open the door. Bought a new battery, it lights when I push the button but no response from the door. How do I find out if the remote or the opener is at fault?
    Thanks for any input

Is the wall button like a doorbell style button or is it a wall station with an open/close button, light button & lock out button? If it's a wall station check & make sure the lock out button isn't engaged (which locks out the remotes).

Have you tried reprogramming the remote? Perhaps that's all it needs.

Have you had any thunder storms or power outages lately? These could cause damage to the logic board in the operator & knock the radio portion of the logic board out.

Thanks for the reply. It is a single function wall station without lockout. It has dip switches not really programmable. I bit the bullet and ordered a new remote. Hope that solves it.

So the new remote arrived today. I duplicated the dip switches from the old to new remote. New remote did not open the door. Took a closer look at the dip switches on the opener.  Should have been the first thing I did Embarassed  One of the switches on the old remote had moved slightly. I now have 2 working remotes. $24.99 lesson learned

I'm glad to hear you got your garage door opener working.
