New Home’s Tension Rod is not Level Empty New Home’s Tension Rod is not Level

We just moved into a builder built home and our 16’ wide garage door’s tension rod is not level on the left side. It’s a good 1.5” higher on the track side, which is less than one degree. I also see the horizontal track is not horizontal on the left and right sides are about 1.25” lower at the door side than the end of the track (are even with each other, though). The door opening and door is level, so the difference in height is very noticeable. I also have an 8’ garage door installed next to this one and it’s components are all horizontal.

I’m a new homeowner so I’m not sure if this is an acceptable manufacturer tolerance or if I should be contacting the builder to have it repaired under warranty. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Having your horizontal tracks sloped up in the back is fine. Some installers prefer this, as It helps keep the cables taunt, especially when your springs start losing tension.

Also, measure from the floor, to the end of your torsion tube on each side. Is it still 1.5” higher on one side? Often roofs have a slope to them giving the illusion that the torsion tube is higher on one side. Especially if you’re measuring from the ceiling to the tube... for the most part, if your door sounds good, runs good, let it be. Don’t be that guy.

Thanks for replying! When I measured I measured from the door header.

I did have the installer company come back out to do an inspection because one of the screws came out of the door. The installer found a few issues, none related to the springs or tracks. Turns out, the door was rubbing against the wood frame and that was causing the loud crashing noises. It was also missing some hurricane supports (I’m in Florida). They got me all fixed up.

Just wanted to post an update in case anyone else has the same question. Thanks again for replying!
